Anthony Scaramucci was in his new position for all of 10 days. In that 10 days, he had a profanity-laden tirade (ON RECORD!) with a reporter from the New Yorker, forced the resignation of embattled press secretary Sean Spicer (SNL misses him dearly), his wife filed for divorce, and Scaramucci had a very public feud with White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus, which ended in Priebus being dumped by President Trump on a tarmac after a trip with the president. Ironically, his victory over Priebus is part of the reason Scaramucci is now out of the White House. But what’s the whole story?
The REAL Reason Anthony Scaramucci was Ousted
It’s been a rough couple weeks for the Mooch. He’s gone through more in 10 days than most DC insiders face in their entire careers. But that’s the price of the spotlight. And Scaramucci craved that spotlight. Too bad he didn’t look ahead, because he signed his own death warrant when he ousted White House Chief of Staff. That opened the door for Trump’s newest Chief of Staff; Gen. John F. Kelly. The official statement from the White House states:
“Mr. Scaramucci felt it was best to give Chief of Staff John Kelly a clean slate and the ability to build his own team. We wish him all the best.”
But the reality of the situation is that the balance of power has just shifted in Trump’s administration, and not by a little. This White House administration is seeing constant power struggles within its doors. Jared and Ivanka vs Steve Bannon vs Reince Priebus vs Steve Mnuchin vs ….. well, it goes on and one. But Scaramucci was firmly in the Jared and Ivanka camp. And as White House Communications Director, he was a valuable ally for the First Daughter and her husband. Yet, in comes Gen. Kelly and out goes Scaramucci without so much as a fight.
The REAL reason Scaramucci got fired? Gen. Kelly is using him to make a big statement: change is coming to the White House.
Maybe Scaramucci was ready to go. But I doubt it. He was as ambitious as they come, and didn’t try to hide it. In fact, that’s why his wife filed for divorce just two weeks before due to give birth to their son. The sudden ousting doesn’t really come as a “surprise” per se, given Scaramucci’s volatile tenure in office. The only thing surprising about his exit is how quickly it came. And that signifies an adult stepping into the White House,
Gen. John F Kelly was until now serving as the Secretary of Homeland Security. He’s been showered with accolades and praise from multiple leaders, being called a “true star of my administration” by President Trump himself. He’s regarded as a strict disciplinarian, which means that the White House may finally get its act together so that the president can finally get his agenda moving forward. Kelly has been responsible for border security, seeing a drop in illegal immigration by 70 percent, according to White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders.
Kelly was an outspoken critic of President Barack Obama, though he never openly endorsed Trump at any point throughout his campaign. But it’s safe to assume he’s solidly on Team Trump, or the president would never have brought him on board.
With a disciplinarian like Kelly on board, it’s time for this administration to make progress. We can all expect less drama out of the White House and more progress — FINALLY!
Welcome home, Gen. Kelly.
